Medical Staffing and Job Growth

With the Affordable Care Act (ACA) putting pressure on healthcare providers to meet deadlines, the healthcare industry has seen an increase in healthcare employment. New medical coding and Electronic Health Records systems are causing the need for more medical management professionals. The baby-boomer generation nearing the age of increased care has providers searching more for nurse practitioners and other advanced practice clinicians to handle the expected growth in geriatric patients. Employers have been increasing hiring and thus medical staffing companies have been called into service to help fill these position increases.

The ACA has created incentives and rewards for healthcare providers to put more emphasis on primary care and adopt new healthcare information technology. This pressure for healthcare providers to increase efforts in these sectors has created a need for new employees in many different areas in the healthcare industry.

Healthcare Job Growth Broadening

“Hospitals have begun to hire entry-level workers whose sole job is to monitor patient safety,” Scott Agostini, director of human resources at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, said in a Monster.com article about healthcare economics and medical staffing.
These employees provide general patient safety and monitoring, which can help hospitals increase reimbursements from ACA.

With ICD-10 codes on their way (eventually) and advancements in EHR networks, there will undoubtedly be a need for medical practice and hospital management positions as well. There will be complications of integrating a new medical coding system and keeping up with the constant change in EHR advancements across the nation. This creates a need for medical management professionals with the skills needed to run these systems.

The baby-boomer generation also has an impact on the increase that is expected in advanced practice clinicians. The baby-boomer generation will reach their highest care needs within the next 10 to 20 years. Because of the great expected growth in geriatric care, recruiters will be looking for advanced practice nurse practitioners and physicians assistants to help accommodate vast geriatric care needs.
